Program Overview
YWCA Girl2Girl is group that connects a small group of 2-4 elementary and middle school age children with a high school age mentor who has demonstrated role model characteristics.
Girl2Girl mentors and participants make new friends and build strong lasting relationships built on trust, understanding and respect. Our young participants enjoy the chance to build peer-relationships with the other children in their group in addition to their mentor. And, mentors have a unique opportunity to practice leadership skills by developing their own sessions specifically for their mentees. All relationships are supported by our experienced GirlSpace staff.
Mentees
Girls/non-binary youth ages 8-13 who want to be paired with a mentor
Mentors
Girls/non-binary youth ages 14-18 who are enrolled in high school. Youth mentors must apply and be accepted by YWCA Youth Services before they are eligible to be paired with mentees.
Mentor Application Process
Youth interested in becoming mentors for the Girl2Girl program must submit an application, along with a resume and references, to YWCA Youth Services. Potential mentors must attend all training sessions held in September – October each year. Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance to the program prior to the first session in November.
