YWCA WEEK WITHOUT VIOLENCE IS OCTOBER 16-21, 2017

 

Lethbridge, AB – YWCA’s Week Without Violence™ is a week-long series of community events promoting diverse approaches to creating a violence-free world. YWCA Lethbridge & District is hosting the following events as part of Week Without Violence:

 

MONDAY, October 16, 2017

Protecting Our Children
Parents are invited to the YWCA between 9:00am-7:00pm and we’ll give them tips on keeping their
children safe with exclusive Personal Safety Plans and a FREE Child I.D. kit.

 

TUESDAY, October 17, 2017

YWise Guys Boys Conference
For the second year, boys in grades 9-12 will meet to challenge harmful ideas of manhood that can
lead to abuse; students register through their schools.

 

WEDNESDAY, October 18, 2017

Power of Being a Girl Conference™
Our annual violence-prevention conference for girls in grades 9-12 focusing on self-esteem, health
relationships, internet safety and more; students register through their schools.

 

THURSDAY, October 19, 2017

Books Build Better Brains
Free books for all pre-schoolers, as well as fun activities and snacks; YWCA from 9:30am to noon.

 

Safer Communities Information Session
Learn how to make your home safer and discourage unwanted behaviour around your property;
7:00pm at YWCA Lethbridge.

 

FRIDAY, October 20, 2017

Take Back the Night
Walk from Galt Gardens (Rotary Plaza) to YWCA to raise awareness about violence against women
and girls; gather at 6:30pm at Galt Gardens, the march starts at 7:00pm followed by free cookies
and cocoa at YWCA.

 

SATURDAY, October 21, 2017

Personal Protection Program 
Learn to evaluate and survive threatening situations; YWCA gymnasium
Ages 12-17: 9am-12:30pm; Ages 18+: 9am-4pm;
$50/person or 2 for $80; register in person at YWCA
