HOPE for the Future

Emergency shelters for women have a very short length of stay, 21-28 days.

Lethbridge had only 74 transitional-style beds in total for a population of 100,000+.

Accessing support services and community resources can take 2-6 weeks.

HOPE: Communal Living for

Domestic Violence Survivors

YWCA Lethbridge & District has spearheaded a transitional-style housing solution in southern Alberta through its newest initiative, the Hope Program.

The Hope program aims to engage women, families, and gender-diverse individuals who have experienced short-term domestic violence shelters, but who require a more extended stay than those shelters can provide.

This communal living initiative offers access to skill development workshops, educational and therapeutic sessions, guidance navigating the justice system, household management training, and opportunities to pursue higher education or employment.

Participants actively work towards their personal goals using the resources facilitated by the Case Manager, empowering themselves to build independent lives while achieving their aspirations in education, employment, healthy relationships, and beyond.
